Imphal, Manipur: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Usham Niranjan Kumar of the Department of Manipuri on the successful defense of his Ph.D. thesis at the Department of Manipuri, Assam University, Silchar.

Dr. Usham Niranjan Kumar's academic achievement marks a significant contribution to the study and preservation of Manipuri cultural heritage. His research, titled “Awang Sekmai Amasung Yairipokki Manipuri Customary Folklore Changdamnaduna Neinaba”, explores the rich traditions, customary practices, and folklore associated with the regions of Awang Sekmai and Yairipok.

The research was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Haobam Nani Kumar Singha, Department of Manipuri, Assam University, Silchar, whose mentorship played a vital role in the successful completion of the study.

The United Committee Manipur (UCM) was established on 3rd of July 2001. It is the outcome of the unprecedented ceasefire agreement declaration between the proscribed NSCN (IM) and Government of India. After the fateful incident of the Great June Uprising on 18 June 2001 where 18 innocent lives were lost during the protest against the extension of the cease fire inside the territory of Manipur, various Civil Society Organizations (CSO) of the state joined hands to form an apex umbrella organization to defend the territorial integrity of Manipur.
